National Film and Sound Archive Canberra

Lux Imperium, formerly SimpleMotion.Lighting, were engaged by the National Film and Sound Archive to deliver a bespoke lighting upgrade for two significant heritage skylights within its iconic Canberra building—formerly the Australian Institute of Anatomy. The project required a sensitive, high-performance solution that enhances ambient light levels while preserving the heritage fabric and complying with strict conservation requirements.

In collaboration with lighting designer Ben Cisterne, our scope included fixture selection, mounting design, structural engineering, integration with Casambi/Dynalite control systems, and environmentally conscious design. The solution supported RGBW colour mixing, deliver even, hotspot-free illumination, and maintain easy access for ongoing maintenance.

Custom mountings and cabling infrastructure were fabricated and installed to align with both heritage and technical requirements. The installation phase included full commissioning, integration into existing systems, and detailed documentation for long-term support.

This project reflected our expertise in combining architectural sensitivity with advanced lighting solutions in cultural heritage settings.
