Belvoir Street Theatre, a landmark of Sydney’s independent arts scene, required a critical upgrade to its outdated dimmer infrastructure to keep pace with modern performance demands. The existing system, based on aging LSC Teko dimmer racks, had become incompatible with the venue’s increasing use of LED and intelligent lighting fixtures. Lux Imperium (formerly SimpleMotion.Lighting) was engaged to deliver a turnkey solution that modernised the theatre’s power and dimming systems with minimal disruption to operations.
Following detailed consultation and system evaluation, Lux Imperium designed and installed a future-ready power control solution built around LSC GenVI dimmers and APS power distribution racks. The system accommodates both dimmable and relay-switched outputs, allowing support for hybrid lighting rigs. Comprehensive electrical works were also carried out, including new 3-phase circuits, expanded outlet capacity, and RCD protection upgrades to ensure compliance and safety.
The project, completed between March and June 2024, successfully extended the flexibility, capacity, and efficiency of Belvoir’s technical infrastructure. Integrated Houston software enables real-time system monitoring and diagnostics, ensuring long-term performance and reliability for one of Australia’s most respected performance venues.
The project involved the design, integration, and commissioning of an ETC Paradigm-based lighting control system covering production, house, work, and architectural lighting. Lux Imperium also installed new LED fixture infrastructure, ETC Sensor3 dimmer racks, Pathway Connectivity gateways, and a PoE network backbone to support advanced control and energy efficiency.
